Et barndomsminne fra utallige påskeferier hos mormor på Toten var når onkel kom på besøk. Sammen med han var alltid amatørradioen. Det var et digert beist av en radiomottaker som sikkert veide et tonn.

Det var kabler, dingser floker og mikrofoner. Jeg tror han må ha hatt tre fire ulike apparater stablet oppå hverandre i det som vanligvis var gjesterommet i andre etasje i huset til mormor.

Den første dagen var det stort sett lokale stemmer han fikk inn på radioen og det var bestandig noe med antennene som måtte flyttes, vendes, deles, splittes. I og med at jeg var for liten til å hjelpe til så det ble til at onkel måtte løpe ned trappa og ut og henge i trærne for å justere antenner, løpe inn, opp trappa igjen for å se om signalet ble noe bedre. Slik holdt han på i mange timer inntil han ved seks syv tiden hadde tryllet frem et radiounivers hvor lyden fra en sprakete høyttaler på nattbordet fylte rommet med stemmer fra hele verden.

Typisk nok var det leggetid for meg, men jeg husker fremdeles å ligge vegg til vegg med radiouniverset og høre på alle stemmene og lydene til jeg sovnet.
