I aimed to capture the playful energy of early electronic music in “Press Play on Tape.” The name itself hints at the Commodore 64 loading days – a mix of anticipation and quirky sounds. This track pulses with a determined, upbeat force. Glitchy synth effects and a skanking guitar create an unexpected edge. Furthermore, the driving drums and bass lock into a rhythm that makes you want to move. Playful cut-up vocal elements add eccentricity.
For me, this track is a sonic exploration of retro energy through a modern lens. It’s rooted in electronic dance music. However, it also shows influences of breakbeat, house, and a touch of glitch pop for interest. The bright Bb major key and 122 BPM tempo provide forward momentum. Consequently, I think it’s perfect for projects needing upbeat, slightly nervous energy. You can find “Press Play on Tape” on the album Music for Media Productions Vol. 2.
