Østfoldmuseene with new website!

In 2018, Østfoldmuseene witnessed an influx of 69,014 unique online visitors. This number isn’t just a statistic. It reflects curious souls eager to delve into the rich tapestry of our collections, unraveling stories behind each photograph, building, and artifact. Our revamped website now ushers these virtual museum-goers right from their couches to our exhibits – a mere click away!

Museum 24: A Digital Gateway

Our platform, Museum24, symbolizes a museum that never sleeps. Developed by MuseumsIT, in collaboration with Museene i Sør-Trøndelag, Anno Museum, Museene i Akershus, Norsk Folkemuseum, and Østfoldmuseene, it’s a testament to collective endeavor. We’ve pooled resources to overcome challenges too daunting for individual institutions. Our database, Primus, and DigitaltMuseum, intertwine to offer richer, more insightful experiences. We’re even opening our digital vaults to third-party developers, expanding our reach and impact.

This solution brings our collections to the digital forefront, offering a 24/7 museum experience. Now, our collections are accessible anytime, anywhere. – Hege Hauge Tofte, Director at Østfoldmuseene

Inspiring Collection Management

Museums are all about their collections, and managing them is a meticulous, time-intensive task. We’re gradually documenting and showcasing everything – from 76 historic buildings to over 1 million photographs. The goal? To inspire not just our audience but also our dedicated conservators, who engage with these collections daily.

A Commitment to Society

Digitalizing our collections isn’t just a task; it’s our duty. These treasures belong to the community. Ensuring easy access for students, researchers, and the general public is a democratic imperative. At Østfoldmuseene, our strategy is clear: all outreach and research must spring from our collections. Our website is more than a portal; it’s a commitment to this principle.

Bridging the Digital and Physical Worlds

Our new website spotlights our magnificent physical venues, making it easier for locals to stay abreast of happenings. While we believe in the power of digital engagement, nothing rivals the magic of in-person interactions. Our website is designed to not just disseminate information but to spark a desire to experience our collections firsthand.

As we step confidently into 2019, Østfoldmuseene is poised to attract the digitally native future generation of museum-goers, blending the allure of the past with the possibilities of the digital age.
